Laboratory for Sea Ice Biome Research (iSI-Bio)

Within the Arctic Marine System Ecology (AMSE) research group at UiT, the iSI-Bio Laboratory works with more than ten cultures of sea ice algae. Here, scientists test algal responses to environmental change under controlled experimental conditions using a variety of methodologies, including 14C & O2-based tracers. To support this work, iSI-Bio makes use of specialized clean lab and cold-room (+4 to -20°C) facilities.

Recent Work from iSI-Bio:

Zoé Forgereau (2023). MSc work. Photophysiological responses of bottom sea-ice algae to fjord dynamics and rapid freshening. Frontiers in Marine Sciences.

Janina Osanen 2022. MSc Thesis: Application of an underwater hyperspectral imager (UHI) for the study of sea ice algae.
